How to Go Sajek Valley: Your Complete Travel Guide 2025

Sajek Valley, the kingdom of clouds, is a tourist center in the Rangamati district of Bangladesh. Over time, it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.

From mid-summer to winter, the entire Sajek remains surrounded by clouds.

The stars seem lost in the clouds, making Sajek Valley a perfect place to visit with your loved ones. This time, our journey with the team is to Sajek Valley to touch the garland of clouds by hand.

We started our journey from Manik Nagar, Dhaka, at 11:30 PM by boarding an Econo bus bound for Khagrachhari. To reach Sajek, we first need to travel to Khagrachhari, and from there, take a local CNG or chander gari, a type of jeep, to Sajek.

To travel to Khagrachhari, you can avail of bus services from points like Shyamoli and Manik Nagar in Dhaka, operated by Hanif, Econo, Saudia, and S Alam.

The Non-A/C fare per person is 750 BDT, while A/C service costs 1,700 BDT. If you plan to travel to Sajek on weekends, make sure to collect bus tickets 5 to 7 days in advance, as there is a heavy crowd during that time.

Since there was no traffic jam on the road, we reached Comilla in two hours. Every bus traveling to Khagrachari stops at Comilla during the night. After freshening up, we had dinner there.

The prices of food at hotels along the stopover are comparatively higher than at ordinary hotels, so it’s wise to have an idea about the prices beforehand. After a 20-minute break, we resumed our journey.

At 3 AM, our bus left the Dhaka-Chittagong Road and entered the Khagrachari route.

Beauty of Khagrachari Highway

The true charm of your bus journey begins here. The dark, winding mountain roads surround you, giving the sensation of venturing deep into a forest.

Occasionally, you’ll come across check posts of the Bangladesh Border Guard Force. These check posts reassure us that we are on the right path and not lost.

It is early morning now in Khagrachari. We were not at all prepared to witness such an incredible sight at dawn.Dense forests line the sides of the road, and rows of trees are covered by clouds in the morning light.

Life is truly meaningless if you don’t see this form of nature with your own eyes. This is an opportunity because the road is quite high above the plains. Sometimes, you can even touch the clouds through the bus window.

All in all, once you set your eyes on such magnificent nature, you will not want to sleep again this morning. Swimming in the oceans of clouds, our bus is moving towards Khagrachari city.

At 6:30 am, we reach Khagrachari Shapla Chattar. After freshening up, we had breakfast at a local hotel.

Renting A Jeep For Sajek Valley

From here, CNGs, jeeps, and  chander gari are available to go to Sajek Valley. Three people can travel in a CNG, 10 to 12 people in a  chander gari, and 12 to 15 people in a jeep.

However, if there are more than 12 people in a jeep, you will have to pay an extra fare. Talk to the driver about that before you travel.

A Type of jeep car called Chander Gari is Popular to travel to Sajek

If none of you are taking your own car, then the above services are the means of exploring Sajek. If your tour plan is for two days, you will have to rent the jeeps for two days, as you will have to return in the same car.

In a two-day package, the rent of a Chander Gari (Jeep Car) will be 9,400 taka, and the rent of a jeep will be 13,200 taka. This rental agreement will include a one-night stay in Sajek and a return trip to Khagrachari the next day.

Upon returning to Khagrachari, you can visit Alutila Cave, Risang Waterfall, Tareng, and the Hanging Bridge. All the cars now operate under one owner’s association, so there is no scope for bargaining over the fixed rent.

After arriving in Khagrachhari from Dhaka by bus, you will get off the bus and go to the Khagrachhari Jeep Owners Association office. This office is located right next to Shapla Chattar in Khagrachhari.

The bus will drop you off next to Shapla Chattar, where the Jeep Owners Association office is, so you won’t have to search much. From there, you can rent a jeep and go directly to Sajek. Here, you must fully reserve a jeep/Mahindra car for 2 to 3 days.

The number of seats in each jeep is 12-13. So, if you have a small group, try to join another group. If you cannot manage the group yourself, go to the Jeep Association office and tell them, and they will try their best to merge you with another group. If you prefer, you can book a car before coming.

At 8 am, in the name of Allah, we set off from Khagrachari Shapla Chattar for Baghai-Hat Army Camp, then directly to Sajek. And yes, in any case, we must reach the Army Camp by 10 am.

If you want to go to Sajek alone, you can get Shanti Paribahan or Chander Carri from Dighinala Bus Stand.

Baghai-Hat : The Gateway Of Sajek Valley

All vehicles going to Sajek from Khagrachari and Dighinala have to get serials, as you cannot enter Sajek at any time you want. Every day, two army teams go to Sajek: one at 10 am and the other at 3 pm. You must enter Sajek with one of the army scouts.

The Bangladesh Army gave us a written serial for Baghai-Hat. Now, it’s time to wait for 10 am. While waiting, you can have tea and snacks at the nearby hotel if you want.

There are also stalls selling various kinds of mountain fruits here, and the prices are very low. You can taste the fruits if you like. At exactly 10 am, our journey to Sajek began.

Little Bit About Sajek

Sajek is a famous tourist destination located in the Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati District. The name “Sajek Valley” comes from the Sajek River, which is formed by the Karnaphuli River.

Although Sajek is located in Rangamati, due to its geographical location, we have to travel through Khagrachhari to reach Sajek. Don’t forget to bring a Robi or Teletalk SIM card when coming to Sajek, as no other SIM works here.

The distance from Khagrachhari is 70 kilometers, and from Dighinala, it is 49 kilometers.

The beauty on both sides of the road from Baghaihat to Sajek will erase your travel fatigue. You will hardly feel like you’re in Bangladesh—anyone will be left  in doubt.

The winding roads through the hills, the uneven terrain, the unique settlements of indigenous people in the folds of the mountains, and the adventure of riding in a moon car will add a new dimension to your travel experience.

At 12 pm, we arrived at Sajek Valley. Everyone now went to their respective cottages to freshen up and have lunch. If you have booked a resort or cottage in advance, go directly there.

The rent for rooms or cottages here depends on the view of Sajek—rooms with a better view of Sajek are priced higher.

About Cottages Booking

The rent for double-bed rooms facing India’s Mizoram ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 taka, while the rent for single-bed rooms is between 2,000 to 3,000 takaRemember, Sajek is not a very large area.

So, if you plan to visit on a weekend, it’s advisable to book your room in advance.

Many people have had the experience of coming to Sajek without booking a room during peak holidays and spending the night outside. Therefore, it’s better to avoid such inconvenience by booking beforehand.

Sajek has many small and large restaurants. For lunch, we had bamboo chicken, rice, lentils, vegetables, and bhorta.

The special bamboo chicken recipe is made by cooking raw chicken inside bamboo. It takes about 50 minutes to prepare. The price of each local bamboo chicken is between 600-750 taka, and one chicken is enough for four people.

Wonder Beauty of Sajek Valley

After lunch, as we climbed the stairs to the cottage, we had an incredibly beautiful experience. The sun was still on the balcony of our room. Standing in the sun, we enjoyed the drizzle from the hills of Mizoram.

Soon, the rain soaked us. To make the rainy moment even more enjoyable, our team got together for a music session.

The rain is coming towards us from India in Sajek _ Live View

In the afternoon, with the sudden arrival of rain, the surroundings became quite calm. The rain has now stopped. Our plan for the day is to visit Lushai Village and Konglak Hill. Tomorrow morning, we plan to go to the helipad.

After checking the weather, we learned that it was raining in Lushai Village, so we decided to head to the helipad to watch the sunset. The helipad is not very far from Sajek Valley—it takes about 10 minutes to walk.

Some people go to the top of Konglak Hill to view the sunset in Sajek. Many people enjoy the sunset from the helipad itself.

The arrival of tourists livens up the small and large shops here, where you can find a fair of local foods made by the indigenous people.

At 1,700 feet above sea level, the night view of Sajek takes on a different charm. The restaurants prepare meals for the arriving tourists. For dinner, most restaurants serve barbecue and bamboo biryani.

Remember, whatever you plan to eat at night, it must be ordered before evening. The restaurant prepares the food based on the orders received. As the night deepens, the music and chatter become more lively.

The sound of the cool mountain breeze seems to harmonize with the music.

Throughout the night, tourists continue to come and go on the roads of Sajek. There is no one here to stop you.

The Bangladesh Army surrounds the entire Sajek Valley with a security blanket, so no matter where you stay in Sajek, you are completely safe.

On the second day of the Sajek trip, we woke up early in the morning. A wonder awaited us on the cottage balcony. The entire Sajek Valley was covered in thick white clouds.

Yesterday, the deep gorges of the high mountains were visible in front of the balcony. Now, they were completely shrouded in clouds.

It looked like something you could touch, and it felt denser than smoke when you reached out with your hand.

Although you may wish to swim in the sea of clouds unknowingly, it’s not possible. However, if you witness such a morning with your own eyes, the memory will remain etched on your mind for the rest of your life.

In fact, there are many mountains surrounding Sajek. Due to its geographical location, the movement of air is obstructed between the mountains. As a result, the clouds get trapped in the air cycle and cannot escape.

These gathered clouds, coming together, create a natural scene that resembles a sea valley.

Back To Home

We packed everything up and got ready. After going through Konglak Hill, we were set to leave Sajek with the 10 am trip. On the way, we passed by the indigenous people’s market.

The mountain trekking would take about 40 minutes. While sipping tea made from bamboo, we completed the trek and reached the top of Konglak Hill. The sunrise is very beautiful from here.

For breakfast, we had eggs, khichuri, pickles, and piyaju, with the package costing 100 taka. After finishing breakfast, we left the mountain and began our journey back.
