Explore the Thrilling Chandranath Hill Trek At - 2025

Hello, travel-loving friends! It’s going to be a great day for you. Today, we will share a story of adventure. A couple of days ago, our team completed a very thrilling journey, and it was truly adventurous.

Hill trekking was a part of this adventurous journey. We chose a day-long destination in Sitakunda, Chittagong. Sitakunda is one of the best places, full of towering mountains that are small extensions of the Himalayan range. It also boasts natural waterfalls and a temple at the top of the mountain.

We had two main goals for today’s journey. First, we aimed to trek Chandranath Mountain, which is approximately 1,020 feet higher than sea level. The second goal was visiting Khoya Chara Waterfalls, which also requires climbing hills.

As all of our team members are students, this was planned as a budget-friendly trip. So, join us as we take you through this story of adventure!

Chandranath Mountain

Chandranath Mountain is one of the best destinations for adventure lovers due to its easily accessible location. It can also be seen from the Dhaka-Chittagong highway

The pilgrimage site for Hindus and the vast sea, a playground of stunning natural beauty, make Sitakunda truly unique. Chandranath Hill is located just 4 kilometers east of Sitakunda Bazar. From the bazar, you can reach the lower gate of Chandranath Hill either on foot or by rickshaw. However, walking to Chandranath Hill offers the opportunity to see several Hindu religious establishments and the daily life of local residents.

Additionally, as you venture deeper into the hill, you’ll come across jum fields and flower gardens cultivated for commercial purposes. The Chandranath Temple is situated at the very top of Chandranath Hill.

Chandranath  Tracking

Traveling gives people joy and teaches them some feelings or inner vision that are not found in a rigid syllabus. And because of the joyous learning conference, the number of people who are thirsty for travel is increasing day by day. We are also traveling to different parts of Bangladesh. We are trying to show you the wonderful travel places of Bangladesh. In continuation of that, we are going with our team from Kamalapur, Dhaka to Sitakunda, Chittagong by night train. We will visit the famous Chandranath Hill in Sitakunda in Chittagong and the Khaiachhara Falls in Mirsarai.

So, let’s start the Chandranath expedition without further ado. Since this is a budget tour, we are traveling on the Chittagong Mail Express. Tickets for this train are not available online. After collecting tickets from counter 19 at Kamalapur Railway Station and having dinner at a nearby hotel, we began our journey by train at 11 PM. As the train departed, everyone cheered loudly, filled with the excitement of the journey.

A rocky road full of obstacles

If you prefer, you can also travel from Dhaka to Chittagong by A/C or non-A/C train. In that case, you will need to get off at Chittagong and then travel to Sitakunda. Alternatively, if you choose to come by bus, you can take any bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong route. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at Sitakunda Market before reaching Chittagong. It’s best to avoid traveling on Thursdays or Fridays, as these are weekend days, and the area tends to be very crowded.

Songs and conversations over red tea continued throughout the journey. Amidst the hustle and bustle, a calm and sleepy silence eventually enveloped the train. We woke up at 6:30 AM at Sitakunda Railway Station. Having arrived in Sitakunda, we left the station in a CNG auto and headed towards Chandranath Hill.

The driver mentioned that people had started trekking in the mountains as early as 5 AM. By 7 AM, we reached the base of the mountain, where most of the peak was still shrouded in clouds. We purchased bamboo sticks for trekking at 30 taka per person, changed into more suitable clothes, as trekking in full pants and shirts can be challenging, and got ourselves ready.

At a small nearby restaurant, we ordered lunch for the entire team, left our bags there, and began our trek. It’s a good idea to carry a water bottle with you during the journey.

After trekking for a while, we came across two paths—one was a normal mountain trail, and the other was a staircase cut through the mountain. We chose the normal trail, even though it would take more time. This was because the staircase route is very steep, and after climbing a short distance, your legs can get tired.

Remember, the total trek is 1,020 meters. On the way back, most people take the staircase route, as it is safer for descending.

After walking for 25 minutes, we found ourselves a bit out of breath. Climbing the mountain slope is no easy task. Since we were not accustomed to it, the trek felt quite challenging. But, as you know, there’s no easy way to experience adventure.

We took a break along the way and paused our walk. The mountain birds greeted us with their cheerful chirping. If you have some food with you, consider leaving a little on the roadside for the birds. The slopes of the mountain were adorned with lush green trees, the air was fresh and calm, and the serene silence created an extraordinary atmosphere.

As we continued, we came across a few small shops selling lemons and their sherbet, grapefruits, carrots, oranges, guavas, bananas, and amalaki grown in the mountains. These shops also offered food and snacks—a thoughtful arrangement for trekkers.

Wow, we could hear the sound of water rushing, signaling that a waterfall was near. The higher we climbed, the more the vastness of the mountains amazed us. To truly understand why mountains attract people, you must visit them yourself. You can’t comprehend the beauty of the world created by Allah unless you step outside your home.

The rocky path once again reminded us of the importance of the bamboo stick we had in our hands. So, be sure to bring a bamboo stick with you. After climbing for about 10 minutes, we reached the small waterfall. When it rains, this small waterfall becomes a gigantic flow. While climbing the slope, we also encountered a few areas where stairs had been installed.

Each step was roughly waist-high. At this point, we had to take another break from trekking. One of our team members fell seriously ill and suffered a stroke. We had to lay him down on the ground to cool off due to the heat.

Another beautiful but risky road

After 10 minutes of rest, his body returned to normal. From where we had stopped, the ocean was visible, along with numerous mountains under the blue sky. Several waterfalls surrounded us, and we were right in the middle of it all. It felt as though nature was embracing us, not allowing us to leave. Subhan Allah. One of our brave comrades climbed a wild Amalaki tree and gathered some Amalaki. It’s also worth mentioning that there are two temples on Chandranath Hill.

We had already reached the first temple. The road to the second temple was quite easy and led to the very top. As we ascended, the beauty of nature around us became even more mesmerizing, causing us to pause several times along the way. Finally, after about two hours of challenging mountain trekking, we arrived at the Chandranath Temple.

There was a tourist police camp here, along with a few shops. Many tired tourists were resting in groups on the temple grounds. On the way back, we descended the straight staircase path in a much shorter time. With that, the Chandranath expedition came to an end.

What we see

To conquer Chandranath Hill, you must climb slowly from the beginning. Rushing is not advisable at all. Climb the stairs very carefully. After a while, your body will need water. The mountain path is risky, and you will encounter many broken stairs on the way to the highest peak. Be extremely careful while climbing. If you get tired, take a rest in the middle. You will come across two paths leading to the highest peak of Chandranath Hill.

As you go up the hill and travel a short distance, you will come across a tree. Here, you will witness a fascinating sight—the monkeys. The sound of monkeys echoes throughout the tree. When tourists arrive, the monkeys run toward them. Different travelers interact with the monkeys in various ways.

Some tourists feed the monkeys bananas, while others offer them cakes and biscuits. However, you must remember not to provoke the monkeys by tempting them with food. After enjoying the sight of the monkeys, you will come across a beautiful waterfall where you can refresh your thirsty mind. Continuing on, after covering some distance, you will see the clouds.

You will be amazed by the stunning view. As you continue your ascent, one breathtaking scene after another will unfold before you. Upon reaching the top, you will be surrounded by the natural beauty of the landscape. The beauty here is so captivating that it will make you forget the sorrows and pains of life.

Things to avoid

The experience of climbing Chandranath Hill is quite challenging. Many people succeed in this difficult endeavor, while some fail because the journey is long and undeniably tough. To climb the mountain, you must refrain from many things. Let’s take a look at what you should avoid during this long journey:

Many people start climbing the mountain at a fast pace. The first thing you must do is avoid making this mistake. Remember, you will need to walk for two to two and a half hours to reach the highest peak, so start off slowly. Another important thing to remember is that the higher you climb on this long journey, the closer you will feel to the mountain’s peak. Be careful! Don’t lose your confidence thinking you’ve reached the top. Keep in mind, Chandranath Temple is about 1,020 feet above sea level.

The entire path to climb the mountain is fascinating. While climbing this interesting yet challenging path, avoid looking back, even if you make a mistake. If you look back, you may feel dizzy and risk falling. Many visitors fail to reach the highest peak after going partway up. Among them, 90 percent have looked back. From conversations with them, it has been learned that when they looked back after climbing a distance, they became dizzy, lost their courage to continue, and ultimately turned back unsuccessfully.
